Timofey Karmatsky, a neurologist, specialist in visceral therapy and psychosomatics, spoke about a simple method of combating edema that works when diets are powerless. The information appeared in his Zen blog of the same name (18+), the information agency EAOMedia will tell you the details.
What is edema
This is fluid retention in body tissues. Externally it manifests itself as swelling of the face, fingers, ankles and feet. Such liquid cannot be pumped out with a needle, and diuretics do not always help.
Who's at risk
Women swell more often due to hormonal characteristics, since progesterone retains fluid. The second risk group is older people, especially after sitting or standing for a long time.
Why diets don't work
The reasons may be different, and, of course, it is important to exclude serious diseases. But most often this is excess weight due to two factors: overeating and stress.
The doctor is sure that “starvation” on a strict diet will not remove swelling, as it only increases stress. It turns out to be a vicious circle: excess weight provokes edema, and edema increases weight. The question arises, what to do?
Physical activity and proper nutrition
Add aerobic exercise: walking, swimming. They speed up blood flow and help remove fluid. Start gradually, without fanaticism. Eliminate junk food: eat less salty, spicy, sweet, fried. But no hunger strikes.
Turtle method: comfort against swelling
The specialist shared an interesting technique. Imagine a turtle washed ashore. To survive until high tide, it stores water – the liquid is retained in the tissues.
We are the same “turtles”. Only instead of the beach we have toxic work, conflicts in the family, an unloved activity. The body under stress turns on survival mode and stores water.
Here is a method for saving the “turtle”: salt bath: 1 kg per 100 liters. Lie for 20–30 minutes at a comfortable temperature. Salt creates a safe environment, the kidneys “open”, and fluid begins to be actively excreted.
Important: 50+ people should take baths with caution, following safety rules. Do not fill the bathtub with hot water to avoid overheating and cardiovascular stress. Handrails and anti-slip mats are also important to protect yourself from falls.
Psychological support
Write down the three most unpleasant situations in life and eliminate them. Improve relationships, add comfort to your life, or leave for good where you feel bad. Remember, only an integrated approach will give results without harm to health.
