In Krasnoyarsk, a court found two residents of Irkutsk guilty of grand theft and sentenced them to actual imprisonment.
It was established that at the beginning of October 2023, the 38-year-old defendant came to the regional center for treatment in the company of a 39-year-old childhood friend. The men rented housing and decided to meet up with old friends and see the city. At first, the guests walked around Krasnoyarsk, went to cafes and saw the sights, but then they ran out of money. Then they decided to get them by criminal means.
“Driving past a branch of one of the banks, the accomplices noticed expensive cars in the parking lot and the people getting into them, who looked presentable. The decision came quickly – the men began to come to the branch every day and observe clients, looking out for a potential victim. The choice fell on a middle-aged man: he entered the bank branch empty-handed and came out with a heavy bundle. Having followed him in their car to a building on the right bank and waited until he left the car, the attackers began to act. One of them broke the glass in the door with his fist and took a bag of money from the floor mat, which the owner had prudently shifted before leaving. The attacker returned to his friend, who was waiting for him without turning off the engine. They divided the resulting sum – 5 million rubles – equally and disposed of the finances at their own discretion,” the police said.
Fearing persecution and exposure, the accomplices abandoned their car in one of the courtyards on Gastello Street and switched to public transport. Then they hastily packed their things and a few hours later returned to Irkutsk, where they were subsequently detained.
During the investigation, both admitted guilt in the crime and fully compensated for the damage. According to paragraph “b” of Part 4 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced each to 3 years and 6 months in a general regime colony.
