The Iranians say they have rejected a US proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire

An anonymous source told Iran's semi-official Fars news agency on Friday that Tehran rejected a US proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire.

According to the same source, the proposal was sent on Wednesday through another country, which was not mentioned, Reuters notes.

There was no immediate comment or confirmation from the United States.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that Iran had officially conveyed to mediators that it was not willing to meet with American officials in Islamabad in the coming days, according to The Guardian.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would only accept a permanent and comprehensive end to the war, not a temporary truce, as well as other conditions, including payment of damages.

He also pointed out that Iran has not yet responded to the 15-point proposal of the United States, but stated that the level of trust between the two countries is “zero” and that some of Washington's demands are “excessive”.
