Petrol prices in Hong Kong are breaking records. They pay more than twice as much as in Poland

Fuel prices are constantly rising after the US and Israel's attack on Iran. In the United States, the average price of gasoline has already reached its highest level since 2022, the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It has now exceeded $4. per gallon (approx. PLN 15), or approximately $1. per liter (approx. PLN 3.70).
Hong Kong residents have to face much higher prices. According to CNN reports, a gallon of gas costs up to $15.6 there. (approx. PLN 58). That's $4.1. per liter (approx. PLN 15 20 gr).

For comparison, in Poland on Friday the highest price for a liter of 95 petrol was PLN 6.19. In the case of 98 petrol it was PLN 6.80 and for diesel oil it was PLN 7.64. Every day, the Ministry of Energy announces the maximum fuel prices in our country in accordance with the recently adopted regulations.

They have the most expensive fuel in the world. Residents go to mainland China to refuel
Data from the GlobalPetrolPrices website show that Hong Kong has been struggling with very high fuel prices for many years. It was ranked first worldwide in this ranking even before the US and Israel attacked Iran. Now, however, the rise in oil prices has accelerated due to restrictions on transport through the Strait of Hormuz.

Asian economies suffer particularly from this because they are heavily dependent on supplies of raw materials from the Middle East, which has been plunged into conflict. As reported by CNN, in recent days more and more car owners living in Hong Kong are choosing to refuel in mainland China. There, fuel prices are up to three times lower.
