Victor Angelescu, the president of the Rapidcommented on the financial data published by the club, which indicates a net loss of 6.7 million euros in 2025.
Rapid ended 2025 with operating revenues of approximately 12 million euros, and expenses amounted to 16.6 million euros. To the operating loss of 4.7 million euros was added the negative balance on transfers, which generated a final loss of approximately 6.7 million euros.
Victor Angelescu explained the major financial losses at Rapid: “With us in the championship if you don't sell…”
“We were in the red the season before and so on, but smaller. In certain years we sold players and the loss was smaller. It was part of the strategy to keep the important players. If you don't sell to us in the championship to have a competitive team and you don't go to the European cups, that's the money!
If you enter the European cups, you make a profit, as the University of Craiova did. I mean, we should have gone to the European cups, which we didn't do last season. Then it wouldn't have been a minus. You earn the five to six million from there and you would make a profit. There were many who said that Mr. Șucu didn't invest, he doesn't put money in… Look how much money you have to put in every year to support a team! This year it was more, but also in the past years.
If we also look at the other teams that were not in the European cups, for example Dinamo, CFR Cluj, only in groups. The sums are there, plus or minus: 5-6 million euros in losses. We can do things better.
If you don't sell players and you have years where you don't go to the European cups, that's what happens,” Victor Angelescu said on the Fotbal Show show from Prima Sport.
We had a season in which we sold 7 million euros. If we didn't bring players, we were in surplus by about 4. The idea is what do you do with the money. To compete in the championship, you need 9-10 million euros in wages. A lot of people would like to be paid year after year. Dan Șucu is the majority shareholder. 6.5 million… it's not nice for anyone to pocket that much money
