General George loses his position as Chief of Staff. Hegseth wants his own man

Pete Hegseth called on General Randy George to resign, wanting to appoint someone to the position who would implement the vision of the army shared by him and President Donald Trump, CBS News reported.
Media reports regarding the general's departure were confirmed by Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell. “General Randy A. George is retiring as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army, effective immediately. The War Department is grateful to General George for his decades of service to our nation. We wish him the best in his retirement,” he wrote in a statement posted on X.
General George took over as Chief of Staff of the US Army after being nominated by former President Joe Biden, which was approved by the Senate in 2023. According to applicable standards, he should hold this position for four years, i.e. until 2027.
Possible successor to George
The current Chief of Staff of the Army may be replaced by his deputy, General Christopher LaNeve. This officer previously served as Hegseth's advisor.
CBS News notes that George's dismissal is not an isolated incident among the defense secretary. Hegseth has already dismissed several senior military officers, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown, and Admiral Lisa Franchetti, who commanded the Navy.
