Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss Liverpool's FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City and their Champions League quarter-final double leg with Paris Saint-Germain through injury. The announcement was made by the team's coach, Arne Slot, on Friday.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper picked up the injury in Liverpool's 4-0 win over Galatasaray in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 last month.
Arne Slot, on Alisson's situation: “He will be unavailable for a longer period”
The Cormorants will play at Manchester City on Saturday and face PSG at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, with the return six days later. Thus, the only plausible option for the goalkeeper position is the Georgian Giorgi Mamardashvili.
“He will not be available for the matches against PSG either. It will be unavailable for a longer period. We expect him to be fit towards the end of the season“, said Slot, according to AFP.
There is good news for the attack though: Sweden's Alexander Isak could play at least part of the City match after returning to training following a broken leg suffered in December.
“It will be a while before he plays a lot of minutes. We'll make sure we do the right thing in terms of his game load, but it's great he's back in training. It would be even better if he was ready for matches too, that's for sure”, explained Slot.
In other good news for the Cormorants, Mohamed Salah is fit to play after limping off against Galatasaray and subsequently missing Liverpool's 1-2 defeat by Brighton before the international break. The Egyptian has announced that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.
