Guest on the GSP podcast “2 to 1”physical trainer Thomas Neubert, 57, says we are “30 years behind”. It reveals an underlying condition they don't even benefit from FCSBamong the most developed clubs in the Superliga.
Neubert is confused with the best years FCSB has had since 2012. He is now out of contract after terminating his deal with the Reds a month ago.
“I'm very proud that I changed the methodology a lot in Romania. Before I came to FCSB, I don't know what methods there were, what intensity there was in training…”, said Neubert, on the GSP “2 to 1” podcast.
Thomas Neubert, rare appearance on the GSP podcast “2 to 1”: “Every journalist asks why we don't play in the Champions League any year…”
He continues: “In the old days, you went to the training camp, ran 12 kilometers without a ball, in the forest, on the street, and that was it. The players were prepared for a marathon, but not for football, which is totally different. That's why we won many matches in the last 20 minutes. The other players, the opponents, could run for 60-70 minutes, but they gave up at the end.”
Neubert considers that an acute problem of Romania “it's the lack of infrastructure”. And points to a concrete example: “Look, the grounds. How many training fields are heated in Romania? We didn't even have one at FCSB! The infrastructure is 30 years behind England, Germany, France. Every journalist asks why we don't play in the Champions League every year. Is it Gigi's fault, Thomas Neubert's, the coaches' fault? We are behind everything!”.
FCSB's situation is also replicated at other League 1 clubs. Dinamo and FC Botoșani are two of the teams that recently admitted that they do not have optimal training conditions during the winter.
