In an economic context marked by uncertainty and accelerated changes, Lidl Romania maintains its commitment to constantly invest in a competitive benefits package that meets the needs of its employees.
Starting from March, Lidl Romania increased the incomes of all employees, still offering, according to internal analyses, the best package of compensations and benefits in food retail. The lowest salary in the company is currently 31% higher than the gross minimum wage in the economy.
“At Lidl, we assume the role of a benchmark in the industry not only by the fact that we offer the most competitive career start in Romanian food retail – with a starting salary 31% above the minimum in the economy – but also by the way we relate to our team. We are a community made up of thousands of people, and our priority is to respond to the huge demographic diversity within the team, offering benefits that are truly relevant to the life stages in which each colleague is.
And in 2026, we chose to develop the compensation package precisely to better reflect this reality of multiple needs. Beyond the pillars of stability we have – such as extended medical insurance, meal vouchers or the 13th salary – this year we also extended the benefits for colleagues who have children.
It's our way of showing that we pay attention to the diversity of the team, that we listen to their voice and that we make constant efforts to adapt the benefits package to everyone's personal context, so that all our colleagues feel that a job at Lidl is worth it from day one,” he says Ionela Sulugiuc, Chief People Officer and member of the Management Board of Lidl Romania.
The status of the best payer in Romanian food retail is complemented at Lidl by an extremely robust compensation package, designed to offer stability to each team member, regardless of their role or stage of life.
Thus, the compensation package of a Lidl Romania employee is completed by the 13th salary and meal vouchers worth 40 lei/day worked, to which are added occasional bonuses for Easter (600 lei) and Christmas (800 lei). The safety of the team is a priority, with employees benefiting from health and life insurance, as well as a highly competitive increment system for organizing working time in stores and warehouses: 40% for weekends, 25% for nights and 100% for public holidays or overtime.
Moreover, Lidl values loyalty and involvement, offering an anniversary bonus of 1,200 lei after each year in the company to front-line colleagues – from stores and warehouses, referral bonuses of 1,000 lei, but also long-term recognition through jubilee bonuses at 10 and 25 years of activity or a retirement bonus.
The company remains a real support in difficult situations through the Lidl Help program, which offers free advice (legal, financial or psychological) from experts, but also through help for serious illnesses (for employees and their minor children) and help in case of death (7,000 lei for an employee, respectively 3,000 lei for a family member).
In this complex ecosystem of benefits, Lidl pays special attention to the diversity of the team, marking important moments with gestures of appreciation such as the gift offered on the occasion of March 8 to colleagues in the team. At the same time, Lidl also supports colleagues who are parents, constantly adapting the support offered to concretely support family life.
They benefit from the aid of 2,000 lei for the birth of the child, the St. Nicholas gift (200 lei) and, as a novelty from 2026, a gift of 200 lei for Children's Day.
At the same time, the Back to School program is expanded this year: the amount increases to 200 lei, and the benefit is now also applied to colleagues who have children over 3 years old (“Back to Kindergarten” component).
“Stability is the new performance standard in retail. We want Lidl to remain that anchor of safety for thousands of families in Romania, which is why we are permanently adapting the salary package to the current reality. We invest strategically and sustainably in all our people, because we are convinced that a safe workplace is the best foundation for development and joint long-term success,” he added Ionela Sulugiuc.
Each member of #teamlidl also enjoys an extensive benefits package, constantly adapted to their needs, which goes beyond the salary component and aims at financial well-being, health and personal balance. Thus, the package is completed by integration support through a dedicated Trainer-Mentor, access to courses and development programs, subscription to a private library and participation in sports activities.
At the same time, employees have access to free psychological, financial and legal counseling services, as well as sabbatical leave for those with at least 5 years of experience. In addition, employees benefit from additional holiday, birthday day off, two days off each at Easter and Christmas.
Lidl also places a constant emphasis on the professional development of its employees. All team members have access to training programs tailored to their role and experience level, as well as educational resources and personal development initiatives.
The internal growth model is actively supported, with numerous examples of employees starting from entry-level positions and progressing into management roles. Thus, the company builds an environment in which performance and the desire for development are sustained in the long term.
Lidl Romania also obtained the Top Employer certification this year for the tenth consecutive year. Internationally, the company has been awarded the Enterprise Seal, which recognizes efforts to maintain high quality standards as an employer and ensure exemplary human resource management in 31 countries.
