Ten thousand Oracle employees fired by email before the program even started

Thousands of employees of the American giant Oracle had a shock on the morning of March 31. The tech giant left tens of thousands of employees around the world without access to company systems before the start of work.

The employees affected by the layoffs received an email informing them of a “broad organizational change” that led to the termination of the contract on the same day, notes The New York Post.

“After careful consideration of Oracle's current needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last day of work. We thank you for your contributions to our organization.” it was shown in the message sent by the management of the company, led by billionaire Larry Ellison.

Employees were asked to provide their personal email addresses for future communications and were informed that they would receive, after signing the documents, a compensation package under the company's benefits plan.

Harsh reactions from employees

The message caused strong reactions among employees and on social media:
“They have created widespread fear, frustration and uncertainty among all employees, not just those directly affected by the layoffs,” said a former employee.

“Financially, the approach seems inefficient, offering significant compensation packages while continuing to hire new people”another stated.

“Not even a phone call. Companies are evil,” said an employee fired after 20 years of work, just two years before retirement.

Another employee reported that his access to company systems was immediately revoked.

Oracle's headcount is estimated to have dropped from 165,000 to 155,000 in a single day, and more layoffs could follow. The decision comes after, in March, the company was already looking at cutting thousands of jobs, in the context of massive investments in data centers for artificial intelligence.

In February 2026, Oracle announced that it wanted to attract up to 50 billion dollars for the development of its cloud infrastructure. As of May 2025, the company had approximately 162,000 employees globally.
