NBP: Banks are under cost pressure, and profit dynamics are very low

The net profit of the banking sector in the period January-February 2026 amounted to PLN 6.08 billion, i.e. it decreased by 25%. y/y – informed the National Bank of Poland. In February alone, net profit amounted to approximately PLN 3 billion.

Total net operating revenues in the first two months of 2026 amounted to PLN 22.95 billion, which means a decrease of 0.3%. year to year.
Interest income decreased by 9.8% y/y and interest expenses decreased by 18.9%.
Revenues from fees and commissions are higher by 4.7%, and related costs increased by 5.9%.
Administrative costs amounted to PLN 11.08 billion, by 8.5%. higher than a year ago, including employee costs increased by 8.7% in this period. rdr.
Depreciation amounted to PLN 928 million, increasing by 1.9%. rdr.
Write-offs (impairment or reversal of impairment on financial assets not measured at fair value with the measurement effect recognized in the profit and loss account) amounted to PLN 672 million in the period January-February, growing by 16.3% year-on-year, and the item “provisions or reversal of provisions” decreased by 26%. y/y to PLN 334 million.
