“Many of us weren't thinking about football”

Daniel Bîrligea, the striker of the national team and the champion of Romania, FCSB, spoke after the defeat in Bratislava with Slovakia, score 0-2, the last game of Mircea Lucescu's mandate.

The striker of the “tricolors” spoke about the disappointment after the result and how the shock caused by the selector's medical problems affected the morale of the team.

Bîrligea claimed, after the match lost by two goals, that the team could mobilize better, but the circumstances affected the concentration and determination of the players.

“I think we could have worked harder and for sure it's a disappointment. We should have at least got a positive result now to go away next time with better morale, but we have to work even better next time to grow together and be united.”

Asked about the moment when Mircea Lucescu fainted during the last training session in the country, the FCSB player explained: “Certainly, I think so the shock with nea Mircea did a bit with our thoughts… it shook us and I think that many of us were not thinking about football. Certainly, we had to give more to the dance and fight more”.

Bîrligea was the author of an own goal at the start of the match and commented on that phase: “It's a phase where you don't really have anything to do: when a ball hits you in the chest, you have no way to control it or what to do if it comes from a bad angle and goes into the goal.”

Finally, the striker spoke about the following selector: “We will see, for sure, it will be a new beginning. We must all be united, work harder and give everything from the first day when we come again,” Bîrligea said after the match, on Antena 1.
