Respondents were asked the question: “Should Poland limit the application of the EU ETS carbon dioxide emission charging system on its territory, even at the cost of limiting access to EU funds or creating barriers to the access of domestic companies to the European Union market?”
As the newspaper reports, even a possible threat to relations with the EU does not cause a change of mind. “Potential sanctions related to access to the common market or funds, which we have indicated as the main risks related to limiting the use of the ETS, do not impress more than 50 percent of respondents. subjectsof which almost every fourth chooses the answer that strongly favors taking this path. Less than a quarter of respondents declare the opposite opinion. The rest choose the “hard to say” option, writes the daily.
Income differentiates opinions
The study shows that attitude towards the ETS clearly depends on income level. The greatest support for limiting it – even at the expense of potential sanctions from the European Union – was recorded among the highest earners.
In a group of people earning income above PLN 7,000 PLN as much as 35.8 percent respondents answered “definitely yes”. For comparison, among people the lowest income (PLN 3-4 thousand), this percentage was 22.3%. and was the lowest among all analyzed groups.
