Israel explains the incident. “The reason was safety”

“Today, due to extreme security concerns, the Jerusalem police prevented the Latin Patriarch, Cardinal Pizzaballi, from celebrating Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher,” the statement read. “There was no malicious intent, just concern for him [kardynała] security,” said the Prime Minister's office.

Israeli police did not allow Cardinal Pizzaballi and the Custodian of the Holy Land, Father Francesco Ielpo, to enter Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem said.

Israel changed its mind

In response to the incident that sparked a wave of criticism of Israel around the world, Prime Minister Netanyahu's office announced the preparation of a plan that will allow Christian leaders to conduct services in the temple.

On February 28, U.S. and Israeli forces launched a war against Iran, which in retaliation began attacking targets in the Middle East, including cities in Israel.
