World number 2 Jannik Sinner (24 years old) won the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami after a final with Jiri Lehecka (24 years old, 22nd ATP), 6-4, 6-4, managing to complete the Sunshine Double. The Italian had also won the Indian Wells title, a first in his career.
The final in Miami, with an expected protagonist, Jannik Sinnerand another surprising one, Jiri Leheckastarted at Hard Rock Stadium an hour and a half late. It's not only raining in Bucharest, but also in Florida, and it's not the first time that the weather messes up plans there.
The starting data massively favored the Italian, the 2024 champion after a final dominated by Grigor Dimitrov. And not only for this reason: Sinner is the strongest on hard of all the surface options, and on the opponent in the last act he had an overwhelming ascendancy.
He won the three ATP circuit matches between them without losing a set, the most recent with a crushing 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 at Roland Garros 2025, but also the initial duel, on the challenger circuit, at Ostrava 2019.
Moreover, Sinner also showed excellent form at Indian Wells, where he prevailed, showing a compact, hard-to-crack tennis.

When the players finally took to the court and the final began, the balance was held for two games. In the third, there were already two break chances for Jannik, then the third, which he capitalized on. The next game showed the former world leader's ability to concentrate: led 40-0, he scored four winning points in a row, removing the danger.
On the other side of the net, Lehecka played bravely, trying to do as much as possible against his more seasoned opponent in finals of this caliber. For the Czech, this was the first, and emotions can massively influence the evolution.
The test of his fighting power was well passed in the ninth game, over 12 minutes long, the longest in Act 1: he saved two set points of the world number 2. At 4-4, however, Sinner made a break, then executed an expeditious game, snatched to zero and the set with it, in 46 minutes, 6-4.
The match had barely resumed with the second half when the rain made its rounds and arrived at Hard Rock Stadium again. The confrontation was interrupted at 15-30 on the service of the Czech. It resumed in an hour and a half, with a clearer and bluer sky. The forecast announced possible rain only in another three hours.

But it didn't get there. There were two games where Lehecka struggled to hold her serve adding a teaspoon of frustration to Jannik's composure. But he concentrated when he had to, to 4-4when the opponent's hand also trembled. Break and then a game won to zero by the Italian, closed to the net, where he wants to come more often from now on, 6-4.

A clear, expected, confirmed victory for the ATP No. 2, although this time he had a better response from the Czech. Not enough though.

It's never easy standing in front of you after losing a final, but if I'm going to lose to anyone, I'd rather it be against you, Jannik. Congratulations to you and your team, you always do a great job. It was a very good tournament, I came here not in good shape, but I managed to get back to the level I wanted.
