Gloria Bistrita qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, after passed by the Danish band Ikastand will play for access to the Final Four with the French team Brest. GSP spoke with coach Carlos Viver, the one who made the Transylvanian team a respected formation on the continental level.
Gloria will face Brest in the quarter-finals. The tour will be in Bistrita (April 18/19), the return in France (April 25/26). Carlos Viver has time to prepare the historic double.
Carlos Viver, in dialogue with GSP: “We know we are making history!”
– Hi Carlos! Congratulations on qualifying for the top 8 teams in Europe. I saw you happy after the game. how are you feeling
– Hello, I am very happy with the team because they have worked hard all season.
– It is your best performance, after the world silver with Spain. How do you feel in Bistrita? How do you explain the Champions League performance?
– I am very happy here. The quality of the squad and the extremely professional structure of the club help us achieve all these results.
– How did you experience the return match against Ikast? Have you ever been afraid you might miss the quarter-finals? What did you say to the girls after qualifying?
– We knew we would struggle throughout the match because of Ikast's quality. We were not afraid because we were prepared for a difficult challenge, but we had a lot of respect for our opponents. I haven't said anything specifically to the players because we are all very happy. We know we are making history.

– With what do you think Bistrita surprises its opponents, some of whom were better rated, such as Esbjerg, Ikast or CSM Bucharest in the championship?
– In these matches, we analyze every detail of the game and show great respect for our opponents. I must emphasize that the players take their tactical work very seriously. In terms of our style of play, the team proves that they fight to the end against any opponent.
– Bistrita is only in its second season in the Champions League, but the fans are dreaming of the Final Four. Next comes the decisive double with Brest. Do you see the team in the semifinals in Budapest?
– It's a dream. Eliminating Brest will be very difficult, but we have nothing to lose, only to gain.
– It is said that a coach is good if he gets the most out of the athletes he has at his disposal. Do you think you have achieved this with Gloria Bistrita?
– We strive to achieve this in everything we do. The coaches aim to give their best and the players to respond in kind.
– What more does Bistrita need to become a top team, a team with a constant presence in the upper stages of the Champions League?
– Time. Sometimes it's hard to get to the top, but the hardest part is staying there, often because of the impatience of those around you.
Viver: “We have to protect Delgado”
– Delgado is having an excellent season. How would you characterize it? Do you think she can become one of the best players in the world?
– I think so, but it will take time. We must not put more pressure on her than is necessary for a player of her age. We have to protect her and let her continue to develop as a player.

– Delgado, Nusser, Arcos form the 9-meter line that you imposed on Bistrita. With Arruda in goal and Ostase in the pivot, you have 5 fixed points in Bistrita's starting team. How important was it to you to have these valid players?
– We must recognize the quality of the players you mentioned, but without overlooking the talent of the other players, who contribute so much to the team's performance. I think it's a very balanced team and that's why we get good results.
– How do you feel in Romania, in Bistrita? What is the schedule of a day in the life of coach Carlos Viver?
– I really like life in Bistrita, it reminds me a lot of the city where I was born (Granollers, Spain). A typical day for me involves handball 24/7: analyzing opponents, training and traveling with the team.
– What else does coach Carlos Viver want? But the man Carlos Viver?
– As a coach, I hope to settle in at the club for a while and repay all the support I receive with good results. And as a person, I hope to share this experience with my family. I want them to be part of this adventure.
– What is coach Carlos Viver's vision about handball? What about Gloria Bistrita?
– I like modern handball, with its fast pace and high tempo, where the audience can have fun and contribute to attracting more and more fans to this sport. At Gloria Bistrita, we try to instill a certain philosophy in our handball. And maybe, with such a professional structure and time at their disposal, the club can establish itself as one of the best teams in Europe.
– This season Bistrita can hold the event in Romania, championship and Cup. Did you think about this at the start of the season?
– You always dream of winning titles, but really, everything we're living now is a dream come true because of all the hard work we've put in.
– How would you characterize the Romanian championship? Why do you think that the national team of Romania does not have better results?
– I think that the Romanian league is among the top three leagues in the world. And I think that the recent performance of the Romanian national team at the World Championship, with such a young team, is a success that should be viewed in a positive light.

With 4 stages before the championship final, Gloria Bistrița is in 1st place in the National League, with 34 points obtained in 18 stages, one more than CSM Bucharest. The team is also qualified for the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup, where they will play against Corona Brașov.
