Serious incident in the center of the English city of Derby: A car mowed down several pedestrians, the driver was arrested
British police have announced that they have arrested a driver suspected of hitting several pedestrians with his car on Saturday night, injuring several of them, some seriously, in the north of England for reasons still unknown, reports AFP.
The incident took place around 21:30, local time (23:30 in Romania), in the center of Derby, located almost 200 kilometers from London.
“A number of people were injured, some seriously, and were treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to hospital,” Derbyshire Police said in a statement released overnight.
“Police officers intercepted a vehicle suspected of being involved in the incident (…). The driver, a man of about 30 years, was detained and is in preventive detention,” she added.
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses, saying the investigation is at a “preliminary” stage and giving no details about a motive or whether it was intentional.
