Trump postpones Iran ultimatum for another 10 days before destroying energy plants: “Negotiations are going very well”

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he is suspending attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure for another 10 days, at the request of the Iranian government, and said that negotiations with Tehran are “going very well”, Reuters and CNN note.

“At the request of the Iranian Government, this statement confirms that I am extending the pause on the destruction of energy facilities by 10 days, until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 20:00 (East Coast time of the USA). Negotiations are ongoing and, despite erroneous claims in the “Fake News” media and other sources, they are going very well,” the president said on his Truth Social platform.

The break in effect was set to expire on Friday.

The president's message was released shortly after the financial markets closed this afternoon.

The White House leader insisted on Thursday that it was Iran's leaders who had to convince him to stop the war and said he “doesn't care about making a deal”.

But Iranian state media said the regime “has total doubts” about Washington's willingness to negotiate.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran's power plants would be hit if Tehran did not “fully open” the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping within 48 hours.

Iran responded on Monday, saying it would launch attacks on power plants in Israel and across the Middle East region, threatening to mine “the entire Persian Gulf.”

Later, Trump announced the extension of the ultimatum addressed to Tehran by five days and revealed that he has already been negotiating with the Iranian regime for two days the terms of a ceasefire. Iran has not confirmed the negotiations.
