The secret of emerald greens and a large head of garlic is in the correct spring feeding, which consists of two important components. When and with what to fertilize garlic so that it grows the size of a fist, said the author of the Ukrainian YouTube channel “Our Dacha!”
According to the gardener, the first timely feeding of garlic allows it to form large heads. Fertilizing should be applied when two or three leaves appear on the garlic. This is a signal that the plant has begun to actively develop.
Feeding composition (per 10 liters of water):
- 1 tbsp. l. ammonium nitrate;
- 1 tbsp. l. magnesium sulfate, which is necessary for complete absorption of nitrogen. Without it, the leaves may remain yellow. Magnesium also activates enzymes that help roots absorb phosphorus even from cold soil, which is important for the development of the root system.
How to prepare and use:
- Dissolve one tablespoon of each fertilizer in 10 liters of water. Both components are highly soluble.
- Stir and pour into a watering can.
- Water the garlic at the rate of 10 liters per 2 m² (depending on soil moisture).
- A couple of days after feeding, carry out surface loosening. This will help retain moisture in the soil and prevent the garlic from drying out.
The gardener emphasized that these fertilizers are accessible and inexpensive, but it is in this combination that they give the best results.
