Marco Rubio says Russia is focused on war in Ukraine, not supporting Iran

The head of US diplomacy said on Thursday that, in his view, Russia is mainly focused on its war against Ukraine rather than helping Iran, Reuters wrote.
Marco Rubio responded to a question related to Moscow's support for Tehran, which he received from reporters as he was about to leave Washington for France, where he is meeting with his counterparts from the other G7 states for talks in which the wars in Ukraine and Iran are also expected to be addressed.
Also on Thursday, its EU counterpart had accused Russia of providing intelligence for operations launched by Tehran's forces against the Americans in the Middle East. Kaja Kallas, who said the war in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine “are very closely related”, urged Washington to step up pressure on Moscow, according to AFP.
“We see that Russia is helping Iran with intelligence to target Americans, to kill Americans, and Russia is now also supporting Iran with drones so that they can attack neighboring countries and also American military bases,” said Kaja Kallas, who is also attending the G7 foreign ministers' meeting.
The Financial Times wrote that Russia provided Iran with crucial support, including satellite imagery, targeting data and intelligence support, but also began making a series of drone deliveries, which would be the first evidence since the start of the war that Moscow was willing to provide Tehran with lethal support.
Rubio on Iran War: 'Progress' in Negotiations
The US secretary of state claims that “progress has been made” in the negotiations with Iran, which he described as “an ongoing and fluid process”, according to CNN.
“There are intermediate countries that are sending messages and progress has been made — some concrete progress has been made,” Marco Rubio said.
Earlier in a cabinet meeting, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff told President Donald Trump that the US side presented Iran, through the Pakistani government, with “a 15-point list of actions,” “and that led to strong and positive messages and discussions.”
Trump claimed Iran was “begging” him to make a deal to end the conflict.
