Italy is tightening cooperation with Algeria in order to increase gas supplies, announced the head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, during her visit to Algiers on Wednesday. The President of Algeria, Abd al-Majid Tabbun, declared that he would keep his commitments regarding the supply of this raw material.

– We have decided to strengthen our very solid cooperation by also operating in new fields, such as gas extracted from under the seabed, which will allow us to increase its inflow – Meloni said after the meeting with the Algerian head of state.
“The friendship between our nations, at a time when instability is growing and confidence is declining, remains one of those extraordinary certainties on which we can rely,” she added. She emphasized that Italy and Algeria “have helped each other many times.”
Tabbun said that “in this supply challenge, I reiterate Algeria's readiness to honor all its commitments as a strategic and reliable partner.”
Italy covers 30 percent. demand for natural gas with supplies of this raw material from Algeria.
The operation of the US and Israeli forces against Iran launched on February 28 and Tehran's retaliatory actions, including blocking the Strait of Hormuz, which is strategic for oil and gas supplies, have led to an increase in global prices of raw materials and raised concerns about access to them.
