Farmers are calling for subsidies for fuel and fertilizers. They want a “red diesel”

The agricultural self-government justifies its request rising prices of means of production, which make it difficult to run farms without state support.
According to agricultural chambers current prices make farming unprofitable without government help. “Currently, prices are so high that running agricultural activities has become unprofitable without state aid. Farmers cannot afford to buy fuel, perform spring field work and fertilizers, which may result in fields remaining unsown and no crops,” we read in KRIR's position.

Rising prices threaten the profitability of farms
Earlier, a similar request was submitted to the National Council of Agricultural Chambers by the Wielkopolska Chamber of Agriculture. She presented specific proposals for support for agricultural producers in the purchase of fuel and fertilizers. The organization proposes to increase the excise tax refund included in the price of diesel oil for agricultural production.
Farmers from Greater Poland want the refund to be increased to PLN 2 for each liter of diesel oil. Currently, farmers can apply for a refund of excise tax in the amount of PLN 1.48 per liter in 2026. The Chamber also proposes increasing the refund limit to 120 l per hectare of agricultural land. The applicable limit is 110 liters per hectare and 40 liters per large animal.
The Wielkopolska Chamber of Agriculture also presents a proposal to introduce B10 diesel oil to the market with an increased fuel content of up to 10%. the share of bioesters. These biocomponents are produced mainly from rapeseed oil. According to the organization, such a step would reduce the price and increase the environmental friendliness of the fuel used by farmers.

The proposal to introduce a red diesel
The Chamber proposes the introduction of agricultural fuel known as red diesel. The idea is to take legislative action to enable farmers to purchase diesel oil with a reduced excise tax rate from separate distributors directly at gas stations or in dedicated distribution systems. The organization emphasizes that colored diesel oil intended for use in agriculture has been sold in Western European countries for many years.
This system operates, among others, in Belgium, Denmark, France, Spain, Ireland, Italy and Great Britain. The agricultural local government considers it more effective and transparent than the mechanism of partial excise tax refund operating in Poland, which involves additional obligations and administrative costs. The introduction of a similar solution would contribute to a real reduction in agricultural production costs.
