An Air Canada Express plane coming from Montreal collided with a ground vehicle on landing at New York's La Guardia Airport, according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24, Reuters and AFP.
The Fire Department said it “responded after an incident involving an aircraft and a vehicle on the runway was reported”
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a take-off ban for all planes at the airport until 05:30 GMT (07:30 in Romania), according to a statement from the regulator.
The FAA notice indicated that the reason for the stop at the airport was an emergency and that there was a high probability that it would be extended, without giving further details.
In a separate notice to pilots, the FAA said the airport could be closed until 18:00 GMT.
Unconfirmed images on social media showed serious damage to the nose of the plane.
