The Romanian woman arrested after trying to enter the British nuclear submarine base escapes the criminal case

An Iranian man arrested last week for an alleged attempt to break into Britain's nuclear submarine base in Scotland has been released pending further inquiries, Scottish prosecutors said on Monday, cited by Reuters and Agerpres.

The 34-year-old man was arrested last Thursday alongside a 31-year-old Romanian woman after Scottish police spoke of two people trying to enter HM Clyde Naval Base on the west coast of Scotland.

Police Scotland said on Saturday that the pair were due to appear in court in Dumbarton on Monday.

The Public Prosecution Service for Scotland said in a statement on Monday that it had decided “there should be no legal proceedings” against the 31-year-old woman, but that it reserved the right to proceed further if further evidence emerged.

The statement added that the 34-year-old man had been “released from custody pending further inquiries and has not appeared in court”, with the case against him still open.

Their arrest took place three weeks after the beginning of the American-Israeli war against Iran. Although Britain did not participate in attacks on Iran, its military forces shot down Iranian missiles and drones in the Gulf region.

The Faslane base, located on Gare Loch, approximately 40km from Glasgow, is a vital strategic point. It is home to the Royal Navy's four Vanguard class nuclear submarines, the only launch platforms for Trident nuclear missiles.

Michael Clarke, Sky News' defense and security expert, highlighted the importance of the location, stating that Faslane is “the largest military base in Scotland”, with a staff of around 7,000, both military and civilian.
