The work on the floor of the Union can be completed in the spring of 2027, “4-6 months in advance”, announced the mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, after a visit to the construction site.

“The progress of the works is extremely good, we are at 50%, in less than 1 year, during this period we managed to complete 220 linear meters of floor, 210 drilled piles, i.e. over 80% of them. (…) The work, including the landscaping of the park, we estimate that it can be ready in the spring of next year, 4-6 months earlier, it depends on how the weather will be. The technical part, considering the advance that the builders have and the fact that there is financing, we aim to close it by the end of the year”, said Băluță.

The mayor of District 4 also said that, at this point, the funding issue has been resolved. “We receive 150 million lei through the state budget law, and the rest of the money comes through the Anghel Saligny program,” he said.

“The construction site on the floor of the Union has funding. After the Anghel Saligny amendment, which obliges the local authorities to participate with 20% of their own budget, following the discussions we had within the Government of Romania and with the mayor of Bucharest, we managed to allocate including this participation quota of the Sector 4 City Hall, amounting to 116 million lei, so that the works can proceed properly. The rest of the funding is provided thanks to the program Anghel Saligny”, explained Băluță.

Traffic resumed in the Hanul lui Manuc area, from May 1

Starting from May 1, road traffic will be unblocked at Hanul lui Manuc, all temporary roads will be abolished, and road and pedestrian traffic will return to normal on this section, the mayor also announced.

“In the course of June, between June 15 and 30, the last stage of traffic restriction follows, namely in the area of ​​the Park and the Horoscop restaurant, changes that will be presented at the right level because we are trying to find the best routes, so as to disrupt road traffic in the area as little as possible,” Daniel Băluță also said.

Regarding the archaeological remains discovered in front of the Manuc Inn, the mayor says he will follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Culture.

Work started in June 2025

The rehabilitation works of the floor of the union are carried out by the City Hall of Sector 4 and started in June 2025. The value of the investment is about 800 million lei, the money being provided by the Government.

The association that won the tender for design and execution is Construcții Erbașu, Bogart, Concrete Design Solutions, and the execution term is 2 years.

The floor at Unirii was almost 100 years old, being basically a concrete slab that supports the roadway and the park at Unirii in the area where the river undercuts Piața Unirii.

It was in an advanced state of decay, with cracked beams, clogged reinforcements and infiltrations. The floor is 32 meters wide and 360 m long. The technical solution involved rebuilding the floor.

The artesian fountains and the park will be redone after the floor work is completed.
