Boguchanskaya HPP introduced schoolchildren of the Krasnoyarsk Territory to the basics of rational water use

March 23 11:50
On the eve of World Water Day*, the Boguchanskaya HPP organized an educational marathon for young residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Power engineers conducted an intellectual quiz and an online test, popular science lessons and a tour of the station. The project involved hundreds of schoolchildren, who were taught to conserve the region’s water resources and understand the importance of preserving aquatic ecosystems.
At the Kodinsk Continuing Education Center, HPP employees invited students in grades 5-6 to test their knowledge in the quiz “Water: familiar and unknown.” The teams answered questions about the properties of water, the energy sector of Siberia and ecology, and in the final part they recalled words describing unique water phenomena and objects. The game was exciting and exciting. The children tested the knowledge they had acquired at school, received new information and useful skills for saving water at home, and the winners received memorable prizes from the Boguchanskaya HPP.
9th grade students were invited to a popular science lesson on the properties and methods of water purification. Specialists from the chemical analysis and control group at the Boguchanskaya HPP told the teenagers about the physical and chemical properties of water, its importance for human health and the surrounding ecosystems, as well as purification methods, including filtration and disinfection.
The practical part of the lesson included experiments in which the children saw how different methods of filtering contaminants work. Students asked questions and shared observations from their own experiences, which created an atmosphere of lively discussion. At the end of the lesson, the HPP employees once again emphasized the need to take care of water and gave examples of how everyone can contribute to environmental protection – for example, by becoming a participant in the annual “OBEREGAi” campaign.
Pupils of the specialized RusHydro class saw the work of the fifth largest hydroelectric power station in Russia with their own eyes. The excursion, accompanied by an audio performance, began from the entrance to the station territory and continued at the museum, where schoolchildren learned about the history of the construction of the Boguchanskaya hydroelectric power station and the stages of its development. The main event was a visit to the turbine room, where the operating hydraulic units are located. The guys, many of whom plan to become power engineers in the future, talked with an employee of the Operational Service and asked him several important questions.
For World Water Day, the Boguchanskaya HPP and Komsomolskaya Pravda prepared a test of 15 questions about water, hydroelectric power plants and ecology for schoolchildren and anyone interested in learning more about the power of water and hydropower. By answering questions, readers could evaluate their knowledge and find out who is a “young beaver” and who is a real expert on clean energy and water resources. All experts can download special diplomas with the corresponding title and show their friends that they understand the energy sector.
*World Water Day is celebrated annually by decision of the UN General Assembly to attract public attention to the problem of preserving and improving the quality and quantity of fresh water. In the Russian Federation, Water Day has been celebrated since 1995.
