Fidan on the hotline: Will Turkey manage to stop the “senseless war” with Iran?

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed steps that could lead to an end to the war in the Middle East with his counterparts from Iran, Egypt and the EU, as well as with representatives of Washington, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing a Turkish diplomatic source.


The source said Fidan held separate telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Iran Abbas Aragchi, Egypt Badr Abdellaty and EU Kaja Kallas, as well as with US officials. No other details were provided.
In connection with the US-Israel war with Iran, Türkiye criticized both sides for “an attack on a sovereign country that violates international law” and Tehran's attacks against countries in the region. On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey's goal was to end what he described as a “senseless, unlawful and deeply wrong war” as quickly as possible.
Iran attacks, among others: American bases in the region. For this reason, the North Atlantic Alliance deployed the American Patriot air defense system in the southeastern Turkish province of Malatya, near a NATO radar base. On Wednesday, it was reported that NATO is deploying another Patriot system in the Adana province in southern Turkey. Incirlik air base is located in Adana, where soldiers of the North Atlantic Alliance are stationed. (PAP)
