Florin Manole, about the reduction of expenses at the Ministry of Labour: “If someone has to leave by the will of the minister, it will be the minister”

The Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, said on Saturday that he will take measures to meet the goal of reducing expenses by 10%, but “this reorganization will not be an occasion or a pretext for layoffs”, reports Agerpres.

Being in Arad for a meeting with the managers of subordinate institutions on the topic of measures to reduce budget expenditures, the minister declared in a press conference that he wants “a system of social assistance, child protection, employment, labor inspection that works and delivers quality services, not that serves economies in a context”.

“We are, however, a country where all the county councils together sent the Ministry of Labor requests to hire 2,500 new people in the social assistance system, with differences from county to county, but there is no one who does not need extra people, and this can only lead us to the conclusion that we have no way to ask for more people and deliver less people”, added Florin Manole.

“I am not the minister of layoffs”

He said that there will be no layoffs in the Ministry of Labor and subordinate institutions.

“We are not firing anyone. Zero layoffs. From the Ministry of Labor, if a person is to leave by the will of the minister, that will be the minister. I am not the minister of layoffs, I am the minister of labor, not of sending people to unemployment,” Manole said.

The minister complained that “in this field we are talking about undersized institutions in terms of personnel”, warning that “it is harmful for the economy to cut certain systems from the Ministry of Labour”.

According to the social democrat, from 2008 until now, the Labor Inspectorate has lost 50% of its staff.

“Do you think it is a stronger labor inspection compared to those who break the law? No. It is 50% weaker. For whom is this a problem? First of all for honest entrepreneurs who pay all their taxes,” concluded Minister Florin Manole.
