The institution to which Meryl Streep donated a 7-figure sum before the release of her new film

Meryl Streep has made a seven-figure donation to the National Women's History Museum, a non-profit organization that primarily offers virtual exhibits designed to “illuminate the stories of women who shaped our past and continue to influence our shared future,” the Washington institution announced in a statement.

He stated that the Oscar-winning actress and awarded with an honorary Palme d'Or for her entire career in 2024 is a long-time supporter of the National Museum of Women's History, founded in 1996.

The museum stated that it intends to use the funds to expand its digital initiatives.

“The National Women's History Museum has long been a catalyst for bringing to the fore the stories that help us better understand who we are,” said Streep, quoted in the release. “I am proud to continue to support this essential activity so that future generations inherit a history that is both truthful and complete,” the 76-year-old actress added.

The museum announced that, in her honor, it will inaugurate a new annual award, which will be given to an educator who promotes the teaching of women's history. The first winner of the Meryl Streep Award for Educators will be announced at the museum's gala this fall.

Meryl Streep will soon return to the big screen

Streep, who hasn't starred in a major film since 2021's Netflix feature Don't Look Up, is set to return to the big screen this year with The Devil Wears Prada 2, a 20-year sequel to the first film.

The veteran actress who was nominated 21 times for the Oscar Awards and won 3 times will play in the new film alongside names such as Stanley Tucci, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Sydney Sweeney, Lucy Liu or Justin Theroux.

The film, considered one of the most anticipated comedies of this year, will premiere in cinemas on May 1, according to Cinemagia.ro.

The first trailer for the film, released last November, was, according to Hollywood media, the most watched comedy trailer in 15 years, with 181.5 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours. 20th Century Studios, the film's international distributor, also later released a full trailer:
