Breakfast is considered an important meal of the day, essential for maintaining a healthy body. And this in the conditions where specialized studies show that a healthy breakfast contributes to restoring the glucose level but also to increasing energy. This is associated with a higher intake of fiber and nutrients, potentially reducing the risk of metabolic problems, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. “It is frequently stated that breakfast is a very important meal and that it deserves special attention, especially among children, and this is confirmed by the opinions published by international agencies, national governments and non-governmental organizations“, says a group of specialists in the study “Breakfast in Human Nutrition: The International Breakfast Research Initiative”.
In addition, there are specialists in nutrition or cardiology such as Lauren Dal Farra, who recommend a hearty breakfast for a longer and healthier life. In short, cardiologist Lauren Dal Farra recommends building breakfast around three nutritional pillars: protein, healthy fats and fiber. “A protein-rich breakfast is one of the easiest ways to protect your metabolism and long-term health(…)Breakfast is a key meal that sets the tone for blood sugar patterns throughout the day”Dal Farra tells Eating Well.
Well, on the Globe, but especially in Europe, there are some extremely famous, traditional breakfast options, some almost a millennium old, that meet all these criteria. That is, they are filling, they are full of protein, rich in healthy fats, but they also have preparations that provide the necessary fiber. They are the super-delicious breakfasts, not to be missed and at the same time easy to cook.
Unforgettable breakfasts in the mists of the British Isles
The British Isles are top when it comes to hearty, protein-rich and delicious breakfasts. In fact, here you can find among the most famous types of breakfast, recognized gastronomically worldwide. Who hasn't heard of the famous “English breakfast”. Well, there are even more delicious options. For example, it's worth a visit to Scotland just to wake up in the morning and eat a full breakfast. But let's see what these famous British breakfasts consist of. First on the list is the full English breakfast. Ideally, we should try the “Full English Breakfast”, i.e. the full English breakfast.
This traditionally consists of an egg, two sausages, two to three pieces of bacon, two mushroom caps, a few slices of tomato, a slice of cocoa pudding and a slice of wholemeal bread, ideally toasted. It should be noted that there are several variants. In other cases, a portion of bean stew (just one spoon) also finds its place in the English breakfast. At the same time, it is ideal to use home-made sausages and bacon, not store-bought. Sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes are prepared on the grill, and ham and eggs are prepared in a pan with canola oil.
We try to avoid canned beans, preferring those cooked the day before and heated. Whole grain bread is toasted but not burned. The Scots also have their version of breakfast, “full”. In short, when you serve a traditional Scottish breakfast, you will have ham, black pudding, baked beans, poached eggs on your plate. So far, everything seems identical to the English breakfast. It's just that the Scots have some unique dishes.

For example, in addition to those listed above, the plate will also include Lorne sausages, made from pork, square in shape. Next to Lorne sausages, “haggis” also makes an appearance, that is, a kind of Scottish sausage made from a mixture of minced sheep hearts, lungs and livers, with the addition of grains and spices. We can't forget the famous “tattie scones”, that is, a mixture of mashed potatoes and flour, which is then turned into a dough. The dough is baked and a kind of crispy and very delicious bread is obtained. Let's not forget the legendary Irish breakfast. It contains ham, pork sausage, pudding sausage, poached eggs and some special oatmeal sausage. Grilled mushrooms are also added at the same time. All these breakfast options are fat, filling and protein rich. Ideal for starting the day strong.

Morning delight, heritage of the Ottoman world
One of the most delicious and filling breakfasts in the world is called Kahvaltı and is eaten in Turkey. Breakfast is an essential meal in Turkish culture. The word “kahvaltı” derives from two words: “kahve” (coffee) and “altı” (under/before), which translates to “before coffee”.
It is a meal that traditionally takes place before the consumption of coffee, because in the Ottoman era, coffee was considered a drink to be enjoyed after meals, rather than during or before them. “Traditional Turkish kahvaltı features a wide range of dishes, usually combining a multitude of flavors, textures and food categories. The table is adorned with both sweet and savory dishes, from cheeses, olives, vegetables, local bread, eggs, börek, baklava or other sweet pastries and more, accompanied by hot beverages such as Turkish tea (çay).”say the experts at Taste Atlas.
It is undoubtedly one of the most abundant breakfasts in the world and contains many very healthy Mediterranean dishes. Here's what you can serve for a breakfast rooted in Ottoman tradition. On a generous platter, the cheeses make their place.

Namely, feta, kaşar (yellowish, hard, ripened cheese), Lor (a crumbly cheese that is also served for breakfast, mixed with spices and herbs) and kaymak (a type of sour cream). Most of the time feta, Lor or Kaymak are sprinkled with olive oil. Besides cheeses there is an abundance of vegetables: cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers. There are also olives of several types, especially the kalamata and green ones. In addition to vegetables, olives and cheeses, Menemen-type eggs are served, i.e. a kind of scrambled eggs with, cooked in a pan with tomatoes and peppers, poached eggs with spicy sausage or boiled eggs. Added to all this is a suite of sweet dishes, especially honey and jams of several kinds. For all these dishes, bread or pastries from simit to pita and borek (puff pastry) are also used. At a Turkish breakfast, boiled black tea, served in small glasses, is indispensable.
Breakfast like in the Balkans
Among the best and heartiest breakfasts are those from the Balkans. For example, a traditional Serbian breakfast. Among the popular dishes eaten in the morning are the burek (dough pie filled with meat or cheese), Komplet Lepinja (a type of flatbread that is served with egg and homemade sauce) and Popara (a Balkan dish made by soaking old bread in hot milk, water or tea, then mixing it with fat (butter, oil or lard) and cheese to form a soft and tasty mash. Romanians call it papara.

Usually all these dishes are served with yogurt or coffee. Very interesting is this Komplet Lepinja, originally from Užice. It's basically a pita-like bread filled with kajmak and an egg, then baked and topped with pretop (meat jus). Also interesting is gibanica, a traditional, versatile pie made with dough, cheese and eggs. We cannot fail to mention the uštipci meatballs.

These are a kind of small fried balls of dough, served with salty toppings, such as kajmak, or jam. If we are still in the Balkan area, we should not ignore the Romanian breakfast either. It is extremely varied as are the dishes, depending on the ethnographic area.
In general, however, especially in the mountains, scrambled eggs with bacon and onion, homemade sausage and other delicious smoked meats are eaten for breakfast. At such a fat-rich meal, especially in winter, pickles and even a glass of cabbage juice are generously served. There are areas where the eggs are beaten directly in the pan and “scrob” is made like in Moldova, a type of rustic omelette, hastily, to which salty sheep's cheese is added. Seemingly harsh in flavors, this sheep cheese scrumptious is a real treat. It's served with a homemade sausage or some bacon, plus a healthy cup of kishleag (sour, condensed milk).
