VIDEO The third day of miners' protests in Târgu Jiu. Hundreds of people took to the streets / The main demands

The miners protest against the layoffs prepared by the Oltenia Energy Complex and demand the dismissal of the management and the Supervisory Board of the state company. Hundreds of people are present at Wednesday's demonstration at the CEO headquarters, according to images filmed by Gorj TV.
According to the local publication, about 1,500 employees will be laid off from the Oltenia Energy Complex in two stages, from April 1 and May 1.
The miners came with a funeral wreath that read “Eternal Rest CEO” and placed them right in front of the headquarters, according to “As in Gorj”. They brought candles that they lit and said that they represent a signal regarding the closure of the company, “Pandurul” reports.

At the protest, a message sent by union leaders Dumitru Pîrvulescu and Gabriel Căldărușe was read.
“For days the CEO's employees have been in the streets and protesting in front of the company, shouting their despair and concern for the future of jobs while the directorate does not offer any concrete solution to maintain them”, the trade unionists said.
They accuse the management of keeping in the company people who should retire and firing the younger ones.
“What kind of management is this in which employees between the ages of 20 and 45 are fired, they are the active force and the future of the company, but over 52-year-old personnel who should have the right to a pension are kept in the workforce,” the employees accuse.
Miners' requests
The unionists say that “the current directorate has lost all its legitimacy” and demand the dismissal of the directorate and the Supervisory Board.
“We strongly request the retention of young employees in the company and the adoption of fair measures, including the activation of the provisions of the retirement law applicable before September 2024 as a solution to balance the situation in the CEO,” the miners demand.
Three days of demonstrations
It was the third consecutive day of protests in Târgu Jiu. On Monday, the miners started a march through the center of Târgu Jiu municipality, several streets being blocked. On Tuesday, more than 1,000 people protested until the evening against the measures prepared by the CEO.
Several dozen miners went to Bucharest last week, where they went on hunger strike in front of the Ministry of Energy.
According to Antena3, the management of the company recently announced, following the miners' protests, that in the next period, a personnel analysis will be carried out at the level of each subunit of the CEO, in the areas where the activity is restricted.
According to the company's representatives, on February 25 the company had approximately 7,800 employees, of which 1,945 are employees with individual fixed-term employment contracts.
