From “Predator” to “Mission Impossible”: How Bell helicopters became Hollywood starsP…

Do you remember Arnold Schwarzenegger's iconic phrase “To the helicopter!” from the movie “Predator” (1987)? Back then, Arnie was talking about a superstar – the special tactical Bell 212 (UH-1N Twin Huey). Along with the Bell 206 JetRanger, these helicopters have become an integral part of intense action scenes in Hollywood. And that tradition continues: most recently, the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey continued to wow audiences in Mission: Impossible: Fallout.
Bell helicopters – synonymous with the action genre in Hollywood!
Bell's path to cinema began back in 1972 with the TV series “MAS*H”, where the Bell H-13 Sioux (Bell 47D-1), known as the “Angel of Mercy”, demonstrated a medical evacuation. Next were:
The Bell 47G-5A in the movie “Kidnapped in 60 Seconds” (1974) is a maneuverable chaser.
The Bell 206B JetRanger III in “Scarface” (1983) is an elegant model for spectacular escape scenes.
Even the cult TV show Airwolf (1984) based its fictional attack helicopter on a modified Bell 222.
As the new millennium dawned, Bell helicopters continued their dominance:
The Bell 222 starred in X-Men (2000), adding a futuristic touch.
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois appeared in “Transformers” (2007), enhancing the realism of the battle scenes.
Since the 2010s, Bell helicopters have firmly established themselves as an integral part of the most complex action scenes:
The unchanged Bell UH-1 Iroquois in “The Incredibles 3” (2014).
Civilian version of Iroquois – Bell 205 in “Team A” (2010).
Bell UH-1N Iroquois in “Boys with Barrels” (2016).
Tony Stark's special Bell 429 with built-in button to activate the Iron Man suit in The First Avenger: The Standoff from MARVEL Studios.
The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, with its unique design with rotating propellers, has become iconic for the rapid movement of heroes in such blockbusters as “On the Edge of the Future” (2014), “Spectre” (2016), “Godzilla vs. Kong” (2021). Its appearance in Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2025) allows viewers to “climb aboard the Osprey” and appreciate its powerful convertible technology.
From the early days of the Bell 47G-5A to the state-of-the-art V-22 Osprey, Bell helicopters have been an integral part of memorable movie moments, whether in dynamic combat scenes or heroic rescue operations. Bell's legacy in Hollywood continues to grow.
