The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner (24 years old, 2nd place ATP) has achieved something that no one else has achieved in the history of this sport, once he triumphed in the Indian Wells final, from Sunday evening.
The Italian won his first title of the season, after defeating Daniil Medvedev (30 years old, 11th ATP) in the final of the Masters tournament in California, in two tie-breaks, score 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4).
Thus, he became only the third tennis player in history to lift trophies at all six Masters tournaments on hard, alongside Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. But, he achieved something even more impressive.
Jannik Sinner, the first in history to win two consecutive Masters tournaments
Thus, with the victory at Indian Wells, Djokovic became the first player since 1990, since the introduction of the Masters format, to win two consecutive tournaments, in this case, the competition in Paris last year and Indian Wells this year, without losing a single set.
During this period, 317 tournaments of this category were played, and Sinner is the first to achieve this feat, according to sportal.blic.rs.
I am very happy. It was a fantastic week. You know, I tried to get here very early. I knew this was a tournament I didn't win, so I wanted to come here and prepare in the best way possible, in the most professional way.
Accomplishing this now means a lot to me. Now I have a few days to relax, and there is not much time between this tournament and Miami. Again, Miami is an important tournament and we will try to play our best tennis there as well and then we will see how it goes.
