He missed out on Olympic gold but secured the biggest trophy of the season

Marco Odermatt (28), a triple medalist at the 2026 Olympic Games, came third in the downhill event in Courchevel, points that earned him the Grand Crystal Globe, awarded to the athlete who collects the most points in World Cup races. It is the fifth time that the Swiss manages to conquer the precious trophy.
Marco Odermatt lit up his season finale after finishing third in the downhill World Cup stage in Courchevel (France). The points awarded for this success ensured him the Grand Crystal Globe this season, before the last stage (March 21-25), the one in Kvitfjell (Norway).
A success that comes after the disappointments of the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. Marco Odermatt arrived at the Olympic competition with the tag of the big favorite in the speed events, but he won two silver medals (giant slalom, team combined) and a bronze (Super-G).

In France, he was overtaken by Vincent Kriechmayr and Giovanni Franzoni. Franjo von Allmen, the Olympic downhill champion, who could still overtake Odermatt in the ranking of the event, did not finish the race due to mistakes made midway, on a difficult slope.
