French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday after the G7 meeting that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz does not justify the withdrawal of sanctions against Russia. As he reported, the G7 countries agree that their position towards Russia should not be changed and they should continue to support Ukraine.

The French president spoke after the meeting of the G7 countries, which took place via videoconference. Macron emphasized that, according to the G7, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz “in no way justifies” the withdrawal of sanctions and that there is a “consensus” in the assessment that the position towards Moscow should not be changed.
He warned that Iran's military capabilities “have not been reduced to zero” as a result of the US-Israeli airstrikes. He said it was up to US President Donald Trump to “clarify his ultimate goals and the pace he wants to give to operations” against Iran.
Referring to the decision of the International Energy Agency, which announced that reserve stocks (up to 400 million barrels of oil) would be made available to the market, Macron announced that France would provide 14.5 million barrels.
The head of state said that France has no information, either its own or from its partners, confirming reports that Iran has used mines in the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, the American station CNN reported that the Iranians had started mining the strait, but the process was not yet advanced.
