Simion, after the vote on the CSAT request: “Many things do not line up”

The leader of the AUR, George Simion, said on Wednesday that the parliamentarians of his party did not vote on the request of the Supreme Council of Defense of the Country (CSAT) regarding the location in Romania of American refueling planes, monitoring equipment and satellite communication equipment, because the party is waiting for clarifications. “It could be just defensive, we don't want to alarm the Romanians,” said the AUR leader.

Asked why AUR MPs did not vote “against” but withdrew their cards from the voting system, Simion said the party did not have enough information.
“We are not clear on this, if it is only defensive. It could be only defensive, we do not want to alarm the Romanians. We did not vote for this project because we are not confident that the safety and protection of every citizen is respected. The moment we are sure that it is only defensive, that it is only for the protection of Romania and Romania's allies, then…”, said the AUR leader.
“Many things don't line up. For what Nicușor Dan sent us so far, the Parliament's vote was not needed. We should be calm. Let's reassure all Romanian citizens. And we, from a political point of view, choose not to expose Romanian citizens to any risk,” Simion said.
Simion said that AUR wants clarification on how Romanian citizens will be protected and that he is waiting for a meeting with the United States ambassador.
“We are interested in how the Romanians will be protected. This ayatollah regime can be activated. And Dubai is under the protection of the USA (…) We do not want Romanians to die. We are a party ideologically affiliated with MAGA, we want to put the Romanians first, Romania first. We are waiting for a clarification meeting with the ambassador of the United States, to clarify if there are only defensive intentions or other plans,” he declared.
According to the AUR leader, the document sent to the parliamentarians would be incomplete.
“From the document it appears that Romania has some obligations and that if it cannot fulfill them, they will be fulfilled by the US. Our feeling is that we received a fake document,” said Simion.
Simion: Decision “taken on its knees” by CSAT
The leader of AUR, George Simion, and the president of POT, Anamaria Gavrila, announced that their parties will not vote on the CSAT request.
The decision was finally approved with 272 votes “for”, 18 “against”, 5 abstentions, while two MPs did not vote.
Simion earlier argued in plenary that the Supreme National Defense Council's decision to approve the US request was “knee-jerk” and “affects the destiny of a nation.” He also said that the “oath of faith” of AUR “was and is towards the Romanian people, and not towards any other entity”.
“We choose to remain loyal to this oath and announce that we cannot vote and do not give our consent for the letters and guarantees of Nicușor Dan, coming from Mr. Grindeanu and other unhealthy parts of Romanian politics. We have no guarantee that the goal and intentions are only defensive, we have no guarantee that someone will defend these military bases, we do not know how many soldiers remain and we do not know many other things”, declared the AUR leader.
He said that “only 64 parliamentarians consulted that classified document” sent by Cotroceni to the Romanian Parliament.
Previously, the Defense Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate approved, with a majority of votes, the decision to allow, according to the letter of President Nicușor Dan, the presence on the basis of Mihail Kogălniceanu of some capabilities of the United States, which will be deployed for a determined period.
The document is classified.
