Borscht with sprat according to the Donbass recipe. Exact proportions and timing

Ukrainian culinary specialist Natalya Nikishina shared a video on her page, filmed with the participation of Ukrainian baker Dmitry Gorbachev. Together they prepared borscht with sprat according to a recipe common in Donbass.

Nikishina presented this video as part of her project “Yak at home?”, for which she invites guests who, like her, were born in the Donbass, into the kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • sprat in tomato;
  • one onion;
  • one carrot;
  • half a beet;
  • three potatoes;
  • 150 g cabbage;
  • 2 tbsp. l. tomato paste.

Preparation

  1. We clean the vegetables. Grate carrots and beets.
  2. Cut the onion into small cubes.
  3. Peel the potatoes and cut them into cubes.
  4. We fry, after five minutes of frying add tomato paste. Fry together for two minutes and add a little water.
  5. Add roast and potatoes to boiling water. After five to seven minutes, add the sprat in the tomato.
  6. Cook for up to 20 minutes. At the end, add the cabbage and boil for another 10 minutes.

Nikishina and Gorbachev recommended serving this borscht with white bread.
