More than 80% of tattoo inks contain hazardous substances that damage organs
Scientists analyzed 54 brands of tattoo ink and found that 45 of them contained chemicals hazardous to health. They are not listed as ingredients on the packaging.
The most common additive is polyethylene glycol – a compound that can cause acute renal failure. Various inks also contain 2-phenoxyethanol, which in high doses can cause toxic effects.
In most countries around the world, tattoos are regulated as a cosmetic procedure, meaning that the materials used in the process are not subject to special testing.
