FCSB mathematically missed the play-off since the 29th stage of the regular season in the Superliga, after FC Argeș prevailed away from home against Dinamo, score 1-0. In the 30th stage, the titular champion lost decisively at the National Arena, 1-3 against U Cluj. At the end of the match, Elias Charalambous surprised everyone when he announced his resignation. Without any public appearance since it became official that FCSB will not play in the play-off this season, Mihai Stoica reacted after the resignations of Elias Charalambous and Mihai Pintilii.

The president of the club's Board of Directors posted on his personal Facebook account a photo with Charalambous and Pintilii, from the last FCSB title party, with the message: “Thank you. Good luck. We'll keep in touch!”.

Gigi Becali confirmed that Mihai Stoica remains at FCSB

After FCSB officially missed the play-off, Gigi Becali attributed a large part of the blame to Mihai Stoica, considering that MM was assigned to deal with transfers, a chapter about which the team boss declared himself deeply disappointed.

However, Gigi Becali confirmed that MM Stoica will stay at FCSB, considering the long friendship and collaboration between the two.
