Economist Halasiuk: The duty on soybeans and rape is money for the economy and defense.
On July 17, the Council introduced a 10% export duty on soybeans and rapeseed. Ukrainian economist Viktor Galasyuk called this the only true step for the development of Ukraine as a manufacturing country.
The tariff is desperately criticized by commodity associations, as well as foreign manufacturing companies, which benefit from buying up almost all Ukrainian soybean and rapeseed raw materials for next to nothing and turning them into value-added products – fuel, food products, and raw materials for the chemical industry.

Meanwhile, our factories are idle, and the total share of the processing industry in the economy is 8%, while in developed countries it starts with 20%. According to Halasiuk, soy amendments are a step in overcoming this gap.
“It's also export revenue – it's money for defense, education, medicine. What is the other option – with an outstretched hand to the IMF? Well, it's not a long story,” Halasiuk said.
In his opinion, the only thing that can be criticized for the soy amendments is the low rate of 10% – it could be 20% or even higher.
