The White House claimed that Spain had agreed to cooperate with the US military. Madrid immediately denied

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that Spain has agreed to cooperate with the US military, a day after Trump suggested imposing a trade embargo on Madrid because of its stance against US-Israeli attacks against Iran, Reuters and News.ro report.

“As for Spain, I think they heard the president's message very clearly yesterday. And as I understand it, in the last few hours they have agreed to cooperate with the US military,” said Karoline Leavitt in a press briefing at the White House.

Trump has proposed imposing a trade embargo on Madrid because of its refusal to allow US aircraft to use the jointly operated naval and air bases in southern Spain in the offensive against Tehran.

Spain rejects US actions

Spain denounced the US and Israeli bombings of Iran as reckless and illegal.

Spain “will not be the vassal” of another country, Deputy Prime Minister Maria Jesus Montero declared on Wednesday. In an earlier televised speech, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reiterated Spain's anti-war stance, warning that this new conflict risks triggering a major global disaster.

Minutes after the statement made by Karoline Leavitt, who stated that “Spain has agreed to cooperate militarily in the last hours”, Spain contradicted this statement. The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, assured that Madrid will not cooperate militarily with the United States, writes AFP.
