The government in Kiev has “completely lost its mind”, claims the Hungarian Foreign Minister. The reason for the new Hungarian-Ukrainian dispute

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, declared that the Ukrainian government “completely lost its mind” after summoning the chargé d'affaires of the Hungarian embassy in Kiev, in connection with the case of two Hungarian soldiers released from Russian captivity, reports MTI, taken over by Agerpres.

Szijjarto criticized Ukraine because, after Hungary saved the lives of the two Hungarian citizens – whom Budapest said the Ukrainians had forcibly taken to war – “now it complains and makes a fuss”. He emphasized that Hungary will continue to provide support to all Hungarian citizens in need and will remain neutral in the war.

“Hungary must stay out of this war; Hungary's peace and security are our priority. We will not allow anyone to provoke us into conflict, not even the Ukrainians!” the minister declared.

Putin: “They were recruited by force”

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered the release of two prisoners of war with dual Ukrainian and Hungarian citizenship, captured by Moscow on the Ukrainian front, according to AFP.

“They are citizens with dual Ukrainian and Hungarian citizenship. They were recruited by force. I decided to release two people,” said the Russian president.

He made the announcement during a meeting in Moscow with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, during which the supply of Russian oil and gas to Budapest was also discussed.

Thanking Vladimir Putin for the two releases, the Hungarian minister assured that “many” ethnic Hungarian combatants are forced to fight in the Ukrainian army.
