“A pinch of calcium in the form of chalk can turn limp leaves into tight, juicy heads the size of a football. The easiest way, which does not require any effort, is to place one small piece of chalk directly into the hole when planting each cabbage. This works like a slow-acting vitamin,” the material explained.
Cabbage is not suitable for acidic soil, because in it it often suffers from clubroot, which manifests itself as growths on the roots, and grows very slowly. Chalk gently deoxidizes the soil around the root, creating ideal conditions for growth. When the root feels a comfortable environment, it begins to grow in depth and breadth, and the cabbage itself turns out strong and resistant to rot.
Preparation of fertilizer
If the seedlings have been in the ground for a long time and need to be given a powerful impetus for growth, the time-tested “chalk milk” recipe will do. To prepare it, you need to dissolve 300 g of crushed chalk in 10 liters of water. Water the cabbage at the root with this solution.
It is enough to do such watering once or twice a season, especially during the period when cabbage heads begin to form.
