Steven Gerrard (45), the legendary player of Liverpool, harshly criticized the manner of play adopted by Arne Slot (47) after the “cormorants” suffered a dramatic defeat to the “red lantern” of the Premier League, Wolverhampton, score 1-2, after a goal conceded in the 90th+4th minute.

The Merseyside outfit have thus lost 5 games this season due to goals conceded in extra time, the most in a single campaign in Premier League history. The failure at “Molineux” dealt a serious blow to the “Cormorants'” hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Steven Gerrard criticized Liverpool's style of play: 'It was desperate, really poor'

“For 65 minutes, Liverpool were desperate tonight, really poor,” Gerrard said in his analyst role for TNT Sports.

Gerrard also joined calls for Arne Slot to start talented 17-year-old striker Rio Ngumoha, adding that the manager should start him “right now”.

“He did more in his brief appearance than Cody Gakpo did in 65 minutes, so he deserves to be a starter. Slot needs to get him in on Friday night.”

The legend criticized Liverpool's defense for Wolves' first goal: “It was a basic pass to the centre-forward, they had a two-on-one situation that they should have dealt with.

The second goal was a poor pass from goalkeeper Alisson and no reaction. If they want to advance in the FA Cup, they have to defend much better.”

Gerrard also commented on a possible foul on captain Virgil van Dijk just before Wolves' goal. In a scramble for the ball in midfield, Tolu Arokodare appears to have thrown the Liverpool captain off balance to win the ball back.

“I don't think it's a foul. I think van Dijk should be a lot more stable in that situation. I also think Konate could have got him out of the mess, but he went in with the wrong foot. He could have saved Van Dijk, but to look for a foul here is too much. He'll be slightly disappointed with himself when he sees the phase again.”
