The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, urged on Sunday, at the end of the Holy Liturgy, to support the mosaic painting works of the National Cathedral.
Patriarch Daniel explained that, although the painting of the National Cathedral was consecrated in the form achieved up to that moment, the works are not yet finished, reports the press agency Basilica of the Patriarchate.
“However, there are still parts of the Cathedral that were covered with cloth, on which the face of the saints or representations from the Ecumenical Councils were provisionally painted,” said Patriarch Daniel.
“There are still some icons to be painted in the vestibule and, in particular, the walls of the Chapel of the National Cathedral, which is at the base of the place of worship, must be painted. There are also some icons to be painted with the face of the holy Romanian women who were canonized last year”, added the BOR leader.
Patriarch Daniel made a direct appeal to the faithful for “financial support”: “We ask that, when you have the opportunity, you and your friends and acquaintances, one by one, urge them to provide financial help, as possible, for the painting of the Cathedral.”
The work continues
Father Nicolae Crîngașu, patriarchal advisor coordinator at the Monuments and Church Constructions Sector of the Patriarchal Administration, recently listed what works still need to be done at the National Cathedral.
“In the whole cathedral, in the whole nave and pronaos and the foyer, we still have to do the electric heating installation in the floor and the finished floor, which will also be made of marble, just as we have on the sole and in the Holy Altar. (…) Also in the cathedral we still have to paint a large part of the walls of the pronaos and the chancel, where the choir sings”, explained the coordinator of the works at the Cathedral for Radio Trinitas.
The Basilica also mentions the ways (cash, SMS, bank transfer, etc.) by which those who wish can help complete the mosaic painting and other adjacent works at the National Cathedral.
