Israel's army chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, said on Saturday that the operation against Iran was “more complex and complicated” than previous ones in a speech to air force pilots before the strikes were launched.

“I know that the training was short, but intense and incredibly thorough. You are authorized to attack the targets. Make history,” Zamir told them, according to EFE and Agerpres news agencies.

The operation, called “Ring of the Lion”, was also supported logistically by the United States: in recent weeks, Israel received about 6,500 tons of ammunition and military equipment, transported by 90 flights and a naval transport that recently arrived in the port of Haifa. The equipment includes Humvees, trucks and other military equipment needed to carry out the operation.

On Saturday morning, Israel and the US launched coordinated attacks on Tehran, but also on other Iranian cities such as Tabriz and Isfahan, targeting strategic defense systems, including an SA-65 system in the Kermanshah area.

Iran retaliated by launching dozens of missiles at Israel, also targeting US military bases in the Middle East. Israeli authorities reported only one person slightly injured in the city of Haifa.

EFE writes that it could not independently verify the extent of possible attacks in Israel, and Israeli military censorship requires the media not to publish the exact locations of rocket attacks.

Israel, prepared for “different scenarios”

To strengthen the defense, Israel will call up about 70,000 reservists, mostly air defense specialists and national guard troops, while maintaining a significant presence on the borders, reports the German news agency DPA.

The army spokesman said Israel was prepared for “various scenarios” and that the military deployment would last “as long as necessary”, stressing that the initial attacks targeted targets relevant to the state's freedom of action and individuals involved in plans that threatened Israel's security.

This operation marks a major escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran, with direct implications for regional security and the risk of expanding the conflict in the Middle East.
