USR President, Dominic Fritz, declared on Friday, in a press conference, that he was surprised by the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu. and that the “maneuver” of the social democrats to organize a referendum in the party regarding the government “could create a political crisis”, informs Agerpres.
“For us it is clear that we signed a protocol. We stick to this protocol. We are a party that keeps its word and that knows what it wants. We keep our word when it suits us and when it doesn't suit us. I admit that Sorin Grindeanu surprises me. As you know, like me, from Timisoara, we, the people of Timisoara, keep our word. At the same time, I can't help but notice that the PSD has tried before, the PSD of Mr. Ciolacu, to be an absolutely dominant party, to want all the power and the PNL to be their key. It didn't end well for Romania, nor for PSD, and that's why I think that PSD must get used to the idea that they won't be able to decide everything on their own in the future. They knew this when they voted with 70% to enter this government,” said the USR leader.
According to him, PSD's “maneuver” could create a political crisis.
“So, in short, it seems to me a maneuver that is more for the domestic public, a maneuver that is disingenuous. But the problem is that it is indeed a maneuver that could create a political crisis. And a political crisis is the last thing that is needed now in Romania. And the last political crisis increased interest rates and the increased interest rates immediately end up in people's pockets in increased prices, in an increased deficit. And that's why I think it would be irresponsibility on the part of the PSD to blow up this coalition agreement and once again we will do our job anyway. We will not abandon the Romanians in a difficult situation”, stated Fritz.
PNL gives an ultimatum to Sorin Grindeanu, after the last statements: “Let him decide if he is in the government or in the opposition”
What Sorin Grindeanu said
Sorin Grindeanu announced on Wednesday that he will propose to his party colleagues “a slightly more extensive consultation” to determine whether they want to remain in government in the current configuration “or in a more limited form, without USR, for example, and if we go forward with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan”.
The “evaluation period” regarding remaining in government was to be completed “with the budget”, the PSD leader said, on Wednesday, to G4Media, adding, however, that he intends to propose to his party colleagues the extension of the consultation, in order to establish whether the social democrats want to remain in government, but without USR or with another prime minister.
“A “Yes/No” question, obviously, considering all these aspects, related to the budget, the way the coalition works, the pulse that the mayors, our local councilors feel very well, if we keep this coalition in this form, that is together PSD-PNL-UDMR-USR, or in a more limited form, without USR, for example, and if we go forward with the Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan”, declared Sorin Grindeanu.
He believes that “the protocol can remain very simple PSD-PNL-UDMR and with another prime minister given by the PNL”.
