Dacia would produce its new type of electric car, the Hipster model, in China, and then sell it on the European market.

The Dacia Hipster would replace the production of the Spring model, on the assembly lines in China, whose production is scheduled to cease.

The decision taken by Renault regarding the place where the model will be produced is a surprising one. The European Commission has created a category called “M1-e” to facilitate the production of small cars on European territory. However, in China, industrial costs would be 30% lower than in Europe.

The Hipster is set to replace the Spring, which will continue to be sold alongside its European successor for around a year, after which it will be phased out in various markets “depending on the local incentive and demand situation”, according to autocar.co.uk.

  • Spring's withdrawal from China is a geopolitical and commercial one. The European Union imposed tariffs of up to 45.3% on electric vehicles manufactured in this country, and the model was excluded from subsidy programs, preferring to keep only one model.

Presented last October, the Dacia Hipster is expected to reach the European market in 2027, with an estimated price below 15,000 euros.

The model is 3 meters long, 1.55 m wide and 1.53 m high, guaranteeing space for four people and a trunk that, although reduced with the seats in the normal position (70 liters), reaches 500 liters by folding the rear ones. The weight is only 800 kg, about 20% less than the Dacia Spring model.

The Hipster Concept aims to offer the smallest carbon footprint for a 4-seater vehicle. The Hipster Concept feels just as good in the city as it does on rural or peri-urban roads. Designed for everyday use, it can be plugged into a regular household outlet. Two charges per week provide sufficient autonomy for daily commutes.
