Talks in Geneva without a breakthrough. “This was the US's last chance for Iran”

As reported by ABC and the Axios website, the presentation of military options against Iran took place at a time when the talks between the US delegation and Iran in Geneva were coming to an end. The meeting was also attended by the most senior American military official, Gen. Dan Caine, who, according to several reports in recent days, warned the president that an attack on Iran could result in a long war that could deplete supplies of air defense missiles.
Talks in Geneva without a breakthrough
Thursday's talks in Geneva with the participation of Iran's foreign minister and presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner did not produce any specific result. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said that they were the “most intense and longest” round of negotiations conducted since February. He did not provide further details, but emphasized that the Iranian delegation had clearly presented its position, and negotiators on both sides will now have to consult their capitals.
“We have made good progress and discussed very seriously the elements of the agreement regarding both nuclear issues and sanctions,” Aragchi told Iranian state television. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman, who is the mediator in the talks, announced: further “technical” talks next week in Vienna.
The American side has not commented on the negotiations so far. Axios reported during the talks that Witkoff and Kushner were disappointed with the Iranian proposal. Then the same portal quoted the opinion of a representative of the US administration, who described the negotiations as “positive”, but without providing details.
According to Axios, Thursday's talks were the last chance for a diplomatic solution to the dispute between the US and Iran.
Israel's role in the attack on Iran
As reported by ABC television, some Republicans and administration officials want Israel to take the leading role in attacking Iran, although it is unclear whether Trump himself supports such a scenario. “The media can speculate about the president's thinking, but only President Trump knows what he can and cannot do,” White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly said.
In recent days, Trump, as well as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance have claimed that Iran has resumed work on nuclear weapons and is working on missiles with a range that would allow it to attack the US. Iran has so far rejected the possibility of the talks also covering its ballistic missile program.
