Electricity prices 2026. What are the forecasts for the coming years?

Energy prices increasingly influence the decisions of companies and households. Poland is losing the advantage of cheap labor, and rising electricity prices may scare away investors and increase production costs. The increase in electricity prices in 2026, but also in the following years, is also a challenge for new sectors, such as data centers, where electricity constitutes up to half of operating costs.

According to the analysis of the “Wysokie Nadzienie” website, in 2025 the average energy price in Poland was EUR 104 per MWh, higher than the European average (EUR 92). The cheapest electricity was in the Nordic countries, the most expensive in the Balkans and Italy.

Most recipients use futures contracts, which are more expensive in Poland than in other countries. What's worse – for 2027, valuations are more than twice as high as in France.
Electricity prices 2026. What are the forecasts for the coming years?
As explained by the “Wysokie Voltage” website, spot contracts are contracts for the purchase of electricity on the same or next day. However, most energy consumers use fixed price contracts. These are priced depending on futures contracts. This means that they are concluded for a month, a quarter, a year or even 2-3 years in advance.

Companies and industries need predictable prices to plan production. High prices of annual contracts force you to take risks or pay much more than competitors from the West. Poland does not have a developed financial market, so contracts are offered mainly by state-owned companies.

The electricity price forecast is not optimistic
As noted by the “Wysokie Nadzienie” website, in the first weeks of January 2026, contracts with delivery in 2027 in Poland are offered practically the most expensively in Europe. “Energy in Poland is over 100 percent more expensive than in France. Energy producers therefore assume that it will not be much cheaper on the spot market next year,” the analysis says.

In the past, Poland used price limits, which gave us an advantage. However, current forecasts are pessimistic and high prices may discourage investors.
New wind farms may lower prices, but this is little consolation for an industry that already signs expensive contracts. Poland still relies heavily on coal and gas, and blocking the development of renewable energy sources for years has deepened the problem. The increase in prices of raw materials and CO2 will be felt especially in places where the energy sector has not switched to cheaper sources.
